JAMBOREE ON THE AIR

On October 20^th, the "Ole Virginia Hams" Amateur Radio Club and the Urbanna Swim Club co-hosted Manassas area Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Webelos to participate in the 2001 "Jamboree On The Air" (JOTA.) Three temporary high frequency amateur radio stations were established at the Urbanna Swim Club and our lads spoke with other Scouts and interesting amateur radio operators in various foreign countries and around the United States.

More than 400,000 excited Scouts worldwide participate in Scouting’s annual JOTA, with some using the opportunity to earn Radio Merit Badges for their efforts.

The Scouts were presented with a special issue of the "Archie" comic book "Archie’s Ham Radio Adventure," which they perused while making a small mountain of cookies and many cans of soft drinks disappear. All had a grand time.

It proved to be both a fun-filled and educational day for everyone involved, and the Scouts are already looking forward eagerly to JOTA 2002.
