Message From the President
This is the final newsletter before our OVH Hamfest on Sunday June 3. (Yes! It's that close!) The Hamfest is the only way our club raises funds to meet our annual expenses, support the repeaters and packet, provide scholarships, and keep membership dues so low. Other clubs have much higher dues.
I urge all OVH members to help out. There is set-up on Saturday morning/With a free breakfast), coordinating the tailgate area parking, ticket sales at the gates, staffing the OVH table, and so forth. If you can help out even for a few hours it would be useful and appreciated.
Contact Jack McDermott if you have any questions or can volunteer. And please attend the monthly meeting on May 21 when we will discuss the overall Hamfest plans and present this year's scholarships.
Thanks and I'll see you there.
73,
Jeff/KV4AP

Minutes of the OVH Meeting
16 April 2001
The meeting was called to order at 20:01 by President Jeff Poulin/KV4AP.
Following the Pledge of Allegiance, all present stated their names and call signs.
Attendance: 16 Members and 3 Guests
The Treasurer's report and the past month's minutes were passed.
Committee Reports
Repeaters: Art Whittum/KW4AW - A fact-finding letter went out to the Repeater Trustee of the York, PA repeater. There has been no response as of yet. The 440 repeater is drifting and a new crystal is on order. An upgrade has been put on the 2M repeater in the way of putting of the modem on battery backup. Tone is pending on 220 and 440 machines.
Membership: Susan Poulin/KG4JBD - The membership drive is getting into gear. 216 membership flyers went out and there have been few bounced. Ron Perry/WS1B was voted in. Welcome Ron. The following were read in: Keith Coghill/WB4ZOH, Charlotte Coghill/No call, and Phil Colling/KG4MJR. They will be voted on at the next meeting.
ARES: David Lane/KG4GIY - Upcoming events:
Hamfest: Jack McDermott/N4YIC
Presidential Initiatives: Jeff Poulin/KV4AP
Scholarships: Jack McDermott/N4YIC - The first one for this year is in. We had 17 last year. The deadline is May 1st.
Insurance: Jack McDermott/N4YIC - The repeater and associated gear has been added to the Insurance coverage.
Red Cross Statement of Understanding: Jeff Poulin/KV4AP
Dick Miller/WD4AZG/SK: Art Whittum/KW4AW - Art has the sad duty to report the passing of Dick Miller. As a member of OVH he was very involved with the club and with Amateur Radio in general. He is credited with creating the Total Ham program. His family asks that a donation instead of flowers be sent in Dick's name. The club voted to donate $100 to the Hospice of Northern Virginia. He died of cancer.
Evening Program
The evening program was a brief introduction to the National Traffic System, give by our local NTS guru Jeff Poulin/KV4AP. For those who are interested, the local Northern Virginia traffic net can be heard nightly at 7:30pm on the 147.300 (Skywarn) repeater. [Sec's Note: The ARRL has a created two PDF files for download that contain the official Radiogram form. I will pass both on to Bill South/N4WJN for posting on the OVH web site].
The meeting was adjourned at 2130. The next meeting is May 21st 2001 at 2000 EDT.
SUNSHINE CORNER
Thanks, and 73 de Jan KE4TMW
