The repeater shack is located at the NOVEC facility on Lomond Drive near Sudley Road north of Manassas. The propane-powered emergency generator is just left of the building. |
The cabinet on the left houses the 440 machine. The open cabinet holds
the 2-m repeater. The receiver is tilted out for this photo. The rack
above the receiver holds the link receiver for remote control. The
ICOM IC-RP2210 repeater, a spare Kenwood 440 repeater, and the Link RLC-3
controller are in the blue cabinet on the right.
This is a rear view of the three repeater cabinets. The two-meter and 440 machines are GE MASTR units set for about 65 W output. The heats sinks are on the final amplifiers of the GE MASTR units.

This is the power supply for the two-meter repeater. The 440 unit uses the same type of supply. The club owns four units so there are two spares.
This board was recently mounted on the back wall of the shack to hold the 440 filter cavities (upper left), the 2-m cavities (upper right), and the new battery charger unit built by W4KRL.
This is a close up of the cabinet that holds three chargers. There is a separate charger for each repeater battery. Currently only the two-meter battery is installed.
The digital panel meters on the charger are supplied with this small unit that is powered by one of the repeater batteries. |
Eventually each repeater will have a battery like this one. It is an industrial quality battery rated at 155 Amp-hours. There is enough capacity to power the 2-meter repeater for two days at 20% duty cycle. A lot of Spring cleaning is planned to eliminate the coax loops and organize the wire runs. |
The repeater antennas share space on the NOVEC tower. |
